MAKING THE MOST OF OUTDOOR SPACE
The beautification of this landscape started with a nice “problem” to have: too much space but nowhere to sit. The existing setting consisted of dry-laid, snap-face limestone wall stone, which had severe settling and was collapsing. A small hidden patio, which could support only a few guests, was also failing. Plus, overgrowth restricted the view of the pond in the distance.
We managed to repurpose the existing wall stone as we crafted a new, multi-level structure. These walls were mortared and constructed on a poured concrete pad on top of evenly spaced concrete piers for long-term support. An open natural stone surface area expands the width of the house, and a grand stairway leads to a lower level where a mortared stone fire pit and vast lawn await. Hydrangeas, a variety of ornamental grasses, and colorful perennials enhance the setting. In other words, every angle offers an amazing view.
